The COPS India will take up the following activities in improving police effectiveness and public safety: (1) Promoting Awareness: Experts from the social sector such as Lawyers, Judges, Philanthropists and government agencies will hold regular meetings with Resident Welfare Associations, Group Housing Societies, Student Bodies and sundry groups for enlisting support and to generate confidence in the system. (2) Prevention of Crime: As a means of reducing crime, the COPS India will promote alternatives to arrest and incarceration. Programs will be launched to increase the use of restorative justice, and to that end, conferences will be held on reforming the money-bail system as well as reforming the parole and probation systems. (3) Setting Facilitation Centers at Police Stations: Efforts would be made to set up facilitation centers at the Police Station by providing a suitable space (minimum 10’X10’ (100 square feet) in the Police Station to help the general public. COPS India Volunteers would be registered and recognized at the Police Stations on recommendation to provide assistance to the public. (4) Harm Reduction: The COPS India will support harm reduction programs including drug abuse alcoholism and other disintegrating activities capable of disrupting family and social cohesion and equilibrium.
